The Statewide California Electronic Library Consortium (SCELC)–of which the William H. Hannon Library is a member–has negotiated a transformative agreement with SAGE Journals. Starting Jan. 1, 2026, Loyola Marymount University authors can publish in more than 1,400 SAGE journals at no cost or with a discount.
This new transformative agreement is in addition to existing SCELC agreements with ACS Publications, Cambridge University Press, Elsevier, Emerald Publishing, IOP Publishing, Oxford University Press, Springer Nature, and Wiley.
What does the SCELC-SAGE agreement offer LMU authors?
The agreement covers more than 1,400 SAGE journals. Depending on the journal, authors may pay nothing at all:
- Hybrid journals: The article processing charge (APC) is fully covered. Authors pay $0.
- Fully open access journals: APCs are discounted 26%, and authors are responsible for paying a range from $370–$2,590.
- Sponsored and S2O journals: APC is $0.
Who is eligible?
To qualify, the LMU author must be listed as the corresponding author and must list LMU as their primary affiliation at the time of submission. Eligible article types include:
- Original research
- Review articles
- Brief communications
- Short reports
- Case reports
Editorials and book reviews are not included in this agreement.
How does it work?
After your article is accepted:
- You will receive an email linking to SAGE’s licensing and payment system.
- You’ll select your preferred Creative Commons license (CC BY or CC BY‑NC).
- For hybrid journals, the APC is automatically covered.
- For fully OA journals, the discounted APC will appear, and you’ll enter payment details for the remaining balance.
Tip: Whenever you are considering submitting a publication to a journal, contact Jessea Young, scholarly communications librarian, for help identifying journals where you can publish open access at no cost.
