Apply to be a Student Library Representative

Are you a currently enrolled LMU student interested in making a meaningful impact on our campus? Apply to be a member of our inaugural student library representatives board! Complete this application by Friday, September 18, 2026.

The Student Library Representatives (SLR) are an interdisciplinary group of currently-enrolled students selected to provide insight into how LMU students engage with the William H. Hannon Library, including its services, collections, spaces, systems, and programs. This diverse group of undergraduate and graduate students strengthens the library’s capacity for informed decision-making and evidence-based practices.

What the SLRs do:

  • Help evaluate library services, collections, spaces, systems, and programs.
  • Provide context and insight on patterns in student behavior
  • Participate in focus-group discussions, usability testing, short surveys, and similar feedback activities
  • Offer perspective on the needs of the student populations they represent

Membership

The SLR board is composed of approximately 15 students selected to represent a broad cross-section of the student body, i.e., across the colleges and across key student populations (e.g., first-years, first-generation, transfer, international, or graduate students). Representatives are selected through an application that gathers information about each student’s college, background, and interest in the group. Representatives serve a one-year term and may renew once for an additional year.

Commitment and Support

The SLRs meet twice per semester, in-person at the library on Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m., with an additional mandatory orientation at the beginning of each academic year. The first meeting will be Oct. 14 at 5:30 p.m. The library provides the resources needed to make the group effective and provide a welcoming experience, including light refreshments at meetings, any materials required for feedback activities, and onboarding so representatives understand the library’s structure and how their input is used.

What representatives gain

Serving as a Student Library Representative offers leadership experience, the chance to develop professional connections who could serve as resources for future opportunities, and the chance to meet and work alongside student peers from across the university.

Applications for fall 2026 are due on Sept. 18. Apply today! If you have any questions, contact us at library@lmu.edu.
