Transformative Agreements: Emerald Publishing and Oxford University Press

Thanks to the Statewide California Electronic Library Consortium (SCELC), Loyola Marymount University authors can now publish open access for free or at a discount with Emerald Publishing and Oxford University Press.

Emerald Publishing

SCELC negotiated an agreement in which open access article processing charges (APCs) are free for corresponding authors from LMU for hybrid journals. For Emerald’s 10 fully open access journals, authors will receive a 5% APC discount. According to SCELC, this is the first Emerald consortial read and publish agreement in the western hemisphere. To be eligible for the Emerald benefits, LMU authors must be the corresponding author. Articles need to be accepted between Jan. 1, 2025, and Dec. 31, 2027. The process to receive the benefits is automated, based on the corresponding author’s institution and their LMU email address.

Oxford University Press

SCELC, CSU, and UC have negotiated a cooperative transformative agreement with Oxford University Press, providing free or discounted open access article processing charges for articles accepted between Feb. 4, 2025 and Dec. 31, 2028. LMU authors must be the corresponding author to benefit from this agreement.

If publishing in a hybrid Oxford University Press journal:

  • corresponding authors with grant funding available to pay the APC can receive a $1,000 discount.
  • corresponding authors without grant funding can request full funding for the APC.

If publishing in a fully open access Oxford University Press journal:

  • corresponding authors can receive a $750 discount on the APC.
