Transformative Agreement with Elsevier for LMU Authors

We are thrilled to announce a new transformative agreement with Elsevier, negotiated on the library’s behalf by our SCELC consortium. This agreement will cover open access article publication charges (APCs) for approximately 2,480 Elsevier journals for LMU corresponding authors (note: the average Elsevier APC is $3,400).

This benefit comes at no additional cost to Loyola Marymount University or the William H. Hannon Library. The agreement does not include open publishing in Lancet or Cell Press journals. This agreement is valid until 2027. Please consult the following lists to confirm a journal’s eligibility: Elsevier Hybrid Journals and Elsevier Fully Open Access Journals.

Requirements

When submitting an article, the corresponding author must be affiliated with Loyola Marymount University. We recommend you use your LMU email address to automatically access the Elsevier transformative agreement benefits. You cannot switch the corresponding author after submission to an Elsevier journal.

Limitations

The number of open access articles published in hybrid journals (where open access is optional) is unlimited. However, there is limited funding for publishing in fully open access journals (where open access is mandatory) from SCELC. Funding is first-come, first-serve based on when the article is accepted. This means authors submitting to a fully open access Elsevier journal should be prepared to pay the APC at acceptance in the unlikely event that the number of fully open access journal articles published by SCELC institutions exceeds the limit in any given calendar year. Authors can contact Jessea Young to gauge SCELC funding availability before submitting an article.

Tips for Authors

  • Delegate the role of corresponding author to an affiliate of Loyola Marymount University or ask your colleagues if their institution has a transformative agreement with Elsevier
  • View SCELCs Elsevier “Publish” Journal list to determine if the journal you are submitting to is hybrid open access or fully open access
  • Indicate your affiliation with Loyola Marymount University when you submit your manuscript
  • Use your lmu.edu institutional email address on your submission profile
  • Include your ORCID researcher iD if you have one
  • If submitting to a fully open access journal, contact Jessea Young, scholarly communications librarian, to check if there is SCELC funding for APCs
