New E-Resources for June 2025

While many of our students are away from campus for the summer, we are busy adding new online resources to our collections. Here is a quick preview of some of the new collections and resources we’ve recently added.

Resources on Chinese History and Culture

China on Film : Twentieth Century Sources from the British Film Institute
A selection of documentary and actuality film footage from the British Film Institute, filmed through the eyes of predominantly Western travelers. Through a combination of amateur films, travelogues and newsreels, this resource provides a unique perspective on both everyday life and some of the key events of modern Chinese history.

Foreign Office, Consulate and Legation Files, China
Correspondence from the British legation and consulates in the cities of imperial and republican China, documenting Sino-British relations and myriad aspects of Chinese history from 1830 to 1939. Themes explored in the sources include politics, diplomacy, international relations, trade and the economy, military conflict, public health, missionaries, migration, war and revolution. LMU has access to “1830-1895: Wars and Treaties.”

Additional Primary Sources

A Global History of Epidemics, 1800-1970
Material from The National Archives and the British Film Institute to document the changes in reactions, responses, medicines and treatments of infectious diseases within the British Empire and across the globe in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Covers thematic areas such as public health and sanitation, migration, trade as well as treatments and vaccination. Includes essays, photographs, newspaper clippings and film.
