Marisa Ramirez has been appointed a permanent archivist for the William H. Hannon Library. Prior to this professional librarian role, Marisa served Loyola Marymount University with distinction in several library positions. Most recently, in June 2017, she was hired in as the library’s first processing assistant in the Department of Archives and Special Collections, making a wide variety of archival collections accessible to our researchers and students. During her tenure within the department, Marisa twice stepped into an interim archivist appointment, during fall semester 2019 and for most of 2020. She has taught and worked with classes, hired and supervised a project archivist, and worked with donors, in addition to fulfilling her collections responsibilities.
Marisa first joined us as an undergraduate student assistant in the Circulation Department in the Charles Von Der Ahe Library in fall 2003. Upon her graduation in 2007, Marisa first accepted a temporary assignment and then a permanent assistant position within the Acquisitions & Serials Department, later the Department of Acquisitions and Collection Development. There Marisa developed expertise working with serials check-in, monographs ordering and electronic resources management support. She also participated actively in the move from the old library to Hannon Library.
In addition to a B.S. in biology from LMU, Marisa holds an M.L.S. with an archival studies specialization from the University of North Texas, which she attained in December 2018. Marisa is currently serving on the library’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Taskforce, Assessment Committee, and Web Committee.
