New E-Resources for Summer 2025

While many of our students are away from campus for the summer, we are busy adding new online resources to our collections. Here is a quick preview of some of the new collections and resources we’ve recently added.

Resources on Chinese History and Culture

China on Film : Twentieth Century Sources from the British Film Institute
A selection of documentary and actuality film footage from the British Film Institute, filmed through the eyes of predominantly Western travelers. Through a combination of amateur films, travelogues and newsreels, this resource provides a unique perspective on both everyday life and some of the key events of modern Chinese history.

Foreign Office, Consulate and Legation Files, China
Correspondence from the British legation and consulates in the cities of imperial and republican China, documenting Sino-British relations and myriad aspects of Chinese history from 1830 to 1939. Themes explored in the sources include politics, diplomacy, international relations, trade and the economy, military conflict, public health, missionaries, migration, war and revolution. LMU has access to “1830-1895: Wars and Treaties.”

Bloomsbury E-book Collections

Ancient Christian Writers
E-book collection from Paulist Press, on the Bloomsbury Theology & Religion Online platform. It presents the major works of the earliest Christian theologians from the late-biblical and patristic periods, from which the development of later Christian doctrine stems. The most important texts of early Christianity and seminal works from the church’s most influential theologians are included, many of which in their first or only English translations. The collection contains letters, biblical commentaries, theological treatises, works of philosophy, and martyrdom narratives, all selected for their central importance to Christian thought and prepared with the needs of students and researchers in mind.

Classics of Western Spirituality Pre-1500
E-book collection from Paulist Press, on the Bloomsbury Theology & Religion Online platform. It is a digital library of historical spiritual texts. Each volume is selected and translated by one or more scholars or spiritual leaders, with scholarly introductions and bibliographies of both primary and secondary materials. The series contains multiple genres of spiritual writing, including poems, songs, essays, theological treatises, meditations, mystical biographies, and philosophical investigations. Each selected work has had an influence on Christian devotion and has also been part of a long-standing tradition, influencing each other, and the understanding of prayer as a mode of thought. Works on Islamic, Sufi, and Jewish spirituality are included to reflect the development of western spirituality. This series provides support for modern scholarship in the field through its accessible translations and critical apparatus to these classics of Western spiritual thinking, both well known and lesser known.
