Please join us on January 18 at 4:30 p.m. for a screening of Abacus: Small Enough to Jail [link to library catalog], a film by Steve James (director of Hoop Dreams and Life Itself). Abacus: Small Enough to Jail tells the incredible saga of the Chinese immigrant Sung family, owners of Abacus Federal Savings of Chinatown, New York. The screening will be followed by a short panel discussion featuring Professor Kathleen Kim (Loyola Law School) and Professor Edward J. W. Park (Department of Asian and Asian American Studies, LMU), as well as members of the Sung family via videoconference.
The screening and discussion will take place in the library’s Von der Ahe Family Suite (level 3). This event is co-sponsored by the LMU English department and the William H. Hannon Library.
