Have you noticed the film exhibit on our first floor? Did you know we have a wonderful collection of films you may borrow? The Award Winning Films exhibition is designed to increase awareness of our media collection. On display are fascinating facts about films including Mad Max: Fury Road, 12 Years A Slave, Casablanca, The Godfather, All Quiet on the Western Front, The Hurt Locker, Birdman, Selma, and Toy Story III to name a few. Don’t be fooled by the DVD cases on display under glass. The DVD’s are all available to borrow at the front desk!
Now that the awards season for films has begun you may wish to check out our fabulous DVD and Blue Ray collection and our streaming video services. Some are subject specific collections for the study of specific areas, such as Theatre in Video, Education in Video, American History in Video, and Classical Music in Video. Some are more general, such as Kanopy which is a collection of over 13,000 educational documentaries or Swank which is a smaller collection of 150 theatrically released films.
The William H. Hannon Library’s media collection can be used for many purposes, including my favorite purpose: entertainment! If there’s a movie critics rave about, it is highly likely that the film will be here to borrow! Overall, our media collection consists of topical documentaries, animation, biography, performances, classics, and more so there is something for everyone.
Thank you very much to Rhonda Rosen, our Media Librarian, for assisting with the description of our collection. This blog post was written by library student assistant and curator of the lobby exhibit, Mario Gallardo. Award Winning Films will be on display until January 31st.
